One Love
When Rasta musician Kassa (played with deft assurance by Bob Marley's
son Ky-Mani) meets Serena (Cherine Anderson), a gospel singer from
a strict religious family at a music contest in Kingston, Jamaica,
the attraction is instantaneous.
At first it's music which bonds them, but much to the annoyance
of Serena's preacher father (Winston Stona) love develops between
the pair and entrenched values and beliefs are forced under the
spotlight in this latter-day Romeo and Juliet tale.
For a film with music as its backdrop the soundtrack to this
romantic drama is first class: Bob Marley, Shaggy and Junior Kelly
all delight in this reggae-heavy collection. Yet, it's the story
which sells the film. Never cloying nor overly sentimental, One
Love does a precise job of examining love from across the tracks
with both Marley and Anderson excelling as the star-crossed lovers.
